- Evaluating the collection
Due to space limitations, not all books will be replaced and not all donations will be added to the collection. Our collection evaluation methods include:
- Inventorying full inventory of stock biannually
- Running a collection analysis based on the full inventory to identify gaps or weaknesses in the collection and developing plans to remedy those
- Generating reports outlining comparative composition of the collection and identifying underdeveloped areas
- Analysing units of work that have resource-based learning components and checking holdings in those areas to ensure sufficient breadth and depth
- Compiling resource lists in correspondence with the units of inquiry and MYP units identifying areas with an insufficient number of resources
- Monitoring requests from patrons to identify areas where there are insufficient resources to meet user requests
- Shelving and circulation: note age, physical condition and appearance of resources
- Comparing published lists of recommended resources with the library's holdings
